Briefing Room You´ve learnt to use TAW. You´ve found the best TAW squadron of the planet (us, in case you were wondering), and you would LOVE to show off your skills to the world, but how to do it?
On this page you will find an answer for all of your computer and behaviour related questions, and after reading it you should be ready to get going. If not, it means that something is wrong or missing from this page. If this is the case, let us know!
Finding people
Question: How do I find and contact "Euro VF-124" pilots? Answer: The roster page is a good start for retrieving information about our pilots -- there you´ll find everything you need to know about us and our pilots. If you need to contact us for anything related to TAW or the squadron, you can use the feedback form.
Question: People don´t answer my e-mail or ICQ messages! Answer: Not everyone is available at all times.. Please allow some days before complaining, but if you don´t get any answer from the people you wanted to contact, e-mail us and we´ll try to contact the pilot(s) for you. Please do not abuse of our time!
Programs we use
Question: What do you use to meet on the net before an event unrolls? Answer: An ICQ message/chat is our preferred mean of meeting. If you don´t have ICQ then you should -- it is free and capable of doing many things. Get it from http://www.mirabilis.com. Normally, an event organizator is named for each event and everyone wanting to participate should look for him/her popping up on ICQ at the scheduled day and time.
Question: Is there some kind of game service you use? Answer: Yes, it is Kali. Kali is a shareware program, a very useful one I might add; it lets you find people and play with them using any game that uses Tcp/Ip or Ipx protocols. Registration fee is 20 US Dollars, but it lasts a lifetime and in general is really worth the cost. Small, unobtrusive, fast, with features including chatting on dedicated servers, finding and joining games, setting passwords for games and much more.
Question: Do you use some kind of real-time chat program? Answer: Yes, it is Roger Wilco. Find it at: http://www.resounding.com. It allows for up to 32 people on a chat room while playing and is currently freeware while it is in beta stage.
Flying Etiquette
Question: Any special procedure to follow during fights? Answer: The mostly used procedure is separation, which is a mean to avoid that one player gets an unfair advantage over the others. It is performed by teams by means of separating (going in the opposite direction of the other team) for at least 10 miles before starting the fight.
Question: People always shoot me down, what should I do? Answer: No one is born perfect, we all have our weak points. The main mean of improving is by playing, and you should do that a lot if you find yourself losing every fight. If you need some manoeuvring consulting please check the F22 ADF/TAW manual or contact us; we will try to arrange a training flight for you. Note: one great mean of learning is turning on the ACMI recorder during flights and then studying your manoeuvres and mistakes. It is a pain to revive your own mistakes, but it´s the only way to learn.. Cursing or otherwise turning down people won´t magically make you smarter (and keep in mind we are all flying because we have fun doing so, not because we want to frustrate people!) |
